Overview
Our Radiography program field offers potential candidates the opportunity to complete an Associates of Applied Science degree in Medical Radiography. This program serves as a means to address the current and future shortage of Radiologic Technologists, R.T. (R) in Virginia and nationally to meet society's need for increased numbers of highly skilled and knowledgeable Radiographer professionals.

Program Objectives

  • Prepare graduates for entry-level practice work in an ethical, legal, safe, and effective environment.
  • Provide a learning environment that recognizes individual differences and promotes caring behavior in the health care community.
  • Promote critical thinking skills to effectively address patient care problems and to adapt to the rapidly changing challenges in healthcare.
  • Provide graduates with strong educational foundations for lifelong personal and professional growth.
  • Prepare graduates to take the national and state licensure examination.

Your Key to Success
In 18 months a student at the Greensboro, NC or Newport News, VA campus can earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Radiography. At the Newport News, VA campus, the program is accredited by the JRCERT (Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology). Newport News, VA campus graduates qualify to sit for the national exam of the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).

Graduate Responsibilities
Radiographers are eligible to seek additional education and experiences in advanced imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, Ultrasound, Bone Densitometry, Interventional Technology, and others. In addition, some of these modalities are combined with additional college level courses in Bachelor degree programs. Alternatively, graduates may seek other Baccalaureate degrees that offer advanced placement for Radiographers, some of which are available online.

Radiography professionals are in demand throughout the United States in a variety of healthcare settings and industries including:

  • Hospitals / Medical Imaging Centers / Outpatient Care Centers
  • Primary Care Clinics / Government / Military / Medical Research
  • Mobile Imaging / Radiology Sales & Service / Education / Industry
