Mike Morphew Joins Culinary Institute of Virginia as Director of Culinary Education

NORFOLK, Va. - (July 26, 2006) - The Culinary Institute of Virginia is pleased to announce that Mike Morphew has joined the school as director of culinary education. In this new position, Morphew will oversee curriculum development and educational programming for the school that opens this fall in Norfolk.

Morphew trained in Westminster College, London and has worked in some of the most famous restaurants and hotels around the world and Buckingham Palace. He has also owned two restaurants and most recently was the program director with the New England Culinary Institute at its campus in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Competitions have always been part of Mike’s agenda, and he has gained many gold and silver awards for culinary excellence. Since 1999, Mike has been part of the British Culinary judging team for the Cookery and Food Association. Mike has appeared on televised cooking demonstrations and was a BBC radio chef for several years. Some of Mike’s original recipes have been included in national publications and books.

The Culinary Institute of Virginia is a new educational endeavor developed by ECPI College of Technology headquartered in Virginia Beach. The school is currently enrolling for fall 2006 classes. The New England Culinary Institute, one of the top 25 culinary programs in the country, is assisting ECPI with the curriculum development. Culinary Institute of Virginia offers a new European educational model that combines classroom instruction with hands-on externships in the community. Graduates from the 72-week program will earn an associate of applied science degree in culinary science.
