NUR271 Dimensions of Professional Nursing

This course is tailored to the professional registered nursing program and prepares the graduating student for successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam and entry level nursing practice. This course is designed with an NCLEX-RN review component. Course content explores the role of the professional nurse and assists the student in using critical thinking to identify areas of care that could benefit from additional research or application of evidence-based nursing practice. This course relates the conceptual framework of the nursing program at MCI to the practice of nursing in various nursing organizations. Legal and ethical implications, trends in management and organizational skills are emphasized. Students will explore group dynamics, relationships, conflicts, change, and leadership styles. Valuable information related to career development and growth and professional development and opportunities is provided to assist the student in obtaining employment and establishing a successful career path with networking opportunities and continuing education. The student will have leadership experiences through preceptorships arranged with cooperating agencies.
