Students Print Prosthetic Devices for Area Children

Recipients to Visit Campus June 30 to Try Them Out

Richmond, VA – All over the world, there are children with missing hands and arms, a large number of which live in third-world countries and war zones. Impoverished, most have no access to artificial limbs.

Even here in the United States, many struggle to function without an assistive device. Simply put, they’re expensive and insurance companies oftentimes will not pay for them because children outgrow them so fast.

Now with the help of 3-D printers, students at ECPI University’s Richmond/Innsbrook campus are joining a global movement to change that, making assistive devices affordable and donating them to children who desperately need them – in Richmond and throughout the world. Recently, the campus formed a chapter linked to a global network of volunteers called Enabling the Future

New Master of Science in Nursing Program Earns CCNE Accreditation

Signifies Highest Standard for Program Quality and Student Success

Virginia Beach, VAECPI University is pleased to announce its new Master of Science in Nursing program has received full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Graduating Student will “Walk” Across Stage

Car Accident that First Left Him Paralyzed Opens Door to New Life

Richmond, VA – In 2011, Adam Shelton had a decent job working on a loading dock, a son he adored, and most of all, his health. That changed in an instant when his car flipped eight times. Ejected from the vehicle, he was left with three broken vertebra, a leg broken in four places, six broken ribs, a fractured sternum, and a collapsed lung.

Doctors told Adam that he would likely never walk again. After two surgeries and four months in the hospital, he began rehab, and within a year, was able to take his first few steps with the use of a cane. Two years after that, he was able to walk unaided, but Adam would never be the same again. Working on a loading dock was out of the question, so he decided to earn a college degree.

He enrolled in the Cyber and Network Security program at ECPI University in Richmond, and on Saturday, June 10 at 10 am, he will “walk” across the stage at the Stuart C. Siegel Center to receive his Bachelor’s degree.

Faculty and Students to Serve Meal, Teach Dining Etiquette to Youth at Newport News’ Dochiki Civic and Social Club

Newport News, VA – Students and faculty from the Culinary Institute of Virginia (CIV) will be serving dinner to nearly 100 city youth ages 10 to 18 on Wednesday, March 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Dochiki Civic and Social Club, located at 2705 Chestnut Avenue in Newport News. In addition, they will also deliver a presentation on proper dining etiquette.

“We believe it is very important that our young people develop these skills early on,” says Tom Harmon Chairman of the club’s civic committee. “In years past, these were things you learned around the dinner table at home, but many of our youth come from single parent homes where family dinners are few and far between. Someday, one of these kids may have a job interview over lunch. Knowing how to conduct themselves properly could well affect the outcome.”
