– The Student
Veterans of America chapter
hosted a chili sale to raise
funds for Disabled American
Veterans.

– Members of the nursing faculty provided
a valuable public service,
hosting nearly 60 school
nurses from Newport News
Public Schools. Each year,
school nurses must review
their skills and be reas-
sessed. Faculty members
did just that, utilizing the
campus’ advanced simula-
tion mannequins to replicate
a host of injuries and illnesses.

– As a
sponsor in Youth Career
Expo, the campus donated
a number of iPads to some
lucky participating teen-
agers. Virginia Peninsula
students were encouraged
to fill out a “passport” by
meeting with sponsoring
educational institutions and
local employers. All com-
pleted passports were entered into a drawing with one lucky
winner per school division. The expo was created to develop
career-ready graduates who can contribute to the economic
vitality of the region.
Northern Virginia
– A group of Dental
Assistant students volunteered for the
most recent Mission of Mercy dental
clinic. More than 800 uninsured and
underinsured people received treat-
ment and cleanings.

American Red Cross came
to campus and students,
faculty, and staff responded
in a big way, donating 41
pints of blood.

and installed
three computer
systems for
the Tidewater
Council of the
Boy Scouts of
America.
