Y
ou’ve heard of power lifting and
power naps, but what about a
“power break?” The Columbia campus’
chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor
Society has implemented just such an
activity which takes place during class
break times once or twice per week dur-
ing the evenings. All classes sync up to
break at the same time, and interested
individuals meet in designated areas for
that night’s activity.
Power Breaks can be tension reliev-
ing games, informational sessions, or
hands-on educational activities. The
point is to give students a break activ-
ity where they can de-stress, socialize,
and learn something that interests them
outside of the classroom.
Most recently, PTK hosted a corn-hole
competition where the winning team
won Cadbury treats. The honor society
also has a couple of toy bowling sets
for bowling competitions, which causes
all participants to smile, laugh, and get
pepped up into high spirits for returning
back to class for the rest of the night.

Greenville Employment Partner/ECPI Alums
Deliver STEM to Local Youth
F
oundation Technologies, Inc. (FTI)
has been a valuable partner with
ECPI University’s Greenville campus,
currently employing three graduates
and one current student. It is also a
generous member of the community.
The company is preparing to launch a
new initiative called
Fun Technology In-
novations
where it will expose youth to
exciting technologies in a camp setting
and, ultimately, expand into full-time
programs for interested youth and their
families.
The program will use STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math)
initiatives to structure classes that guide
children through programming funda-
mentals, basic electronics
and engineering, graphic
arts, mechatronics, and
robotics. Campus faculty,
students, and staff will all
have an opportunity to
contribute to this impor-
tant mission and look
forward to doing so.
