Book Drive to Assist in Homeless Job Training

The Up Center’s Up Center Books program needs books to continue offering its job training program for homeless and low income adults. To meet this need, the agency is launching a corporate book drive in conjunction with the United Way’s Day of Caring.

The donated books, CDs and DVDs are used to run a real business while providing on-the-job training. Trainees learn skills such as data entry, customer service, and warehouse management when they sell the donated materials on popular online marketplaces such as eBay and Amazon. One hundred percent of Up Center Books revenue supports the training program, which provides a pathway out of poverty by teaching basic job and life skills that will enable trainees to succeed in the future.

Nu Delta Sigma Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association, at ECPI University’s Virginia Beach campus, is hosting a book drive. To donate, please take books to the designated box located in the library by September 15. Donors may obtain receipts for donations at the library’s main desk.
