Hands-On Degree Programs 

Our Cybersecurity and Mechatronics programs are designed to equip students with in-demand skills in networking, cybersecurity, automation, manufacturing, and more.  

Nursing and Medical Assisting programs are designed to prepare students to meet the region’s ongoing need for qualified healthcare professionals and offer access to clinical experiences with local providers. 

As Newport News continues to expand, these programs help address the area's need for skilled talent across both healthcare and cyber fields. 

Students have access to spaces designed to reflect the workforce, including: 

• Electronic and Mechatronics Labs – Dedicated labs provide access to programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, and diagnostic equipment used in automated systems, supporting testing, integration, and troubleshooting aligned with industry environments. 
• Computer Information Science (CIS) Labs – We have multiple CIS labs equipped with current hardware and software to support instruction in networking, cybersecurity, programming, cloud technologies, and systems administration. 
• CAD and Design Labs – These labs feature industry-standard software to create 2D and 3D models for objects, structures, and building systems, supporting design and technical documentation aligned with engineering and construction environments.  
• Anatomage Table – An advanced three-dimensional anatomy visualization system used across healthcare programs that support the exploration and understanding of human anatomy. 
• Nursing Simulation Labs – Our nursing simulation labs are designed to reflect real healthcare environments, featuring patient simulators that support the development of clinical decision-making, technical skills, and patient care in hands-on settings.   
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Simulation Lab – The campus features an ICU environment organized to reflect a hospital unit, where students can perform clinical skills using advanced patient simulators in a setting aligned with real-world healthcare delivery. 

Campus Life 

On campus, we have several organizations to get involved with. Each provides leadership, networking, service, and professional development pathways. 

• Support for Student Veterans – The Student Veterans of America (SVA) fosters a strong sense of community and support for military-affiliated students while helping them successfully transition to academic and professional life. 
• Honors Societies – The Golden Key International Honour Society and Phi Theta Kappa (Beta Iota Nu chapter) recognize academic achievement and offer access to networking and leadership opportunities. 
• National Cyber League – Cybersecurity students can participate in the National Cyber League, a competitive cybersecurity program that supports skill development through real-world challenges. 
• Student Interest Groups – The EET and Mechatronics group engages with electronics and automation concepts, collaborates on projects, and connects with peers who share similar technical interests. 
• eSports Team – Students can try out for the Rams, ECPI University's collegiate gaming team, to represent the university and compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
