ECPI University Poised to Supply Skilled Graduates

Ortec Inc. has announced it is expanding its operations in Anderson County, South Carolina, just outside Greenville, where an ECPI University campus is located. A biomaterial and polymer technology company, it plans to invest $20 million and create 60 new jobs.

In a news report by SC Biz News, representatives for Ortec say the company will retrofit its current 200,000 square foot facility and invest in new production equipment and support infrastructure, allowing it to focus on the production of materials going into specialty coatings, adhesives, automotive applications and graphic arts technology. The renovated facility is projected to be operational by the third quarter of 2018, with hiring beginning earlier in the year.

The kind of jobs offered in advanced manufacturing facilities like the one Ortec is building typically require people with a variety of skills in such areas as electronics, mechanical engineering, and computers. Wouldn’t it be exciting to work in a modern manufacturing plant, filled with computers, robots, and advanced automation? Maybe you’re interested, but you just don’t have the right skills? Well, there’s still time to go back to school and it may not take as long as you think.

There’s a university nearby that teaches these exact skills. It’s ECPI University and its Greenville campus. We offer two programs specifically designed to prepare graduates to enter the advanced manufacturing profession – Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) and Mechatronics.

Our Electronics Engineering Technology program can help you prepare to become an engineering technologist. These skilled professionals play a vital role, serving as an important link between engineers and technicians. Through this program, you can learn how to:

  • Analyze and implement systems containing hardware and software modules
  • Use testing and measuring instruments to procure data, analyze problems, and design a system or process
  • Identify and solve technical problems

Specific coursework includes:

  • Data acquisition and control systems
  • Analog and digital electronics and communications
  • Computer hardware and software
  • Programming and networks

The Mechatronics program includes many of these areas as well, but also includes two other aspects that power advanced manufacturing – mechanical engineering technology and computer information systems. Additional curriculum for this program includes:

  • Programmable controllers
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Applied mechanics
  • Materials science
  • Microcontrollers
  • Testing and measuring instruments

If this is the kind of career you’ve been looking for, you can be working in this profession sooner than you may think. Through ECPI University’s year-round, accelerated program, you can earn a Bachelor’s degree in just 2.5 years.
