Course Description: This course introduces students to mechanical components and system design and provides analysis/design of clutches, brakes, belts and roller chain. Students will learn about indeterminate normal loading, superposition of stresses and deflections, compound stresses, columns and fatigue, theories of failure, shaft design and deflections of shafts with non-uniform moments of inertia involving computer verification, antifriction bearings, engineering materials, and helical compression springs.
