Course Description: This course will present an introduction to the PA profession, including the history of the profession, advocacy, prevention of medical errors, patient advocacy, patient safety, quality improvement, risk management, credentialing, laws & regulations regarding professional practice and conduct, licensure & certification, the PA relationship with the physician & other health care providers, policy issues that affect practice and professional organizations. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to recognize, describe and debate issues of ethics and professionalism common to PA clinical practice. Students will participate in case discussions evaluating the principles and practice of medical ethics.
