Course Description: This course introduces students to principles, theories, and concepts that provide the foundation for nursing practice. Students are introduced to nursing theory, nursing history and trends, research, and evidence-based practice. Legal aspects of practice and ethical issues (such as client rights, privacy, and confidentiality) are discussed along with health teaching and counseling skills. Health promotion and individual responses to health and illness in a multicultural society are developed. The nursing process is introduced as it applies to promoting wellness and health maintenance.
