NUR347 Mental Health Nursing

Course Description: This course introduces students to principles, theories and concepts used for providing and directing holistic care of individuals with mental health alterations. Legal aspects in mental health nursing practice are discussed along with methods to minimize risks. Students practice the use of therapeutic communication to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships. Students also practice interdisciplinary team functions including health teaching and develop counseling skills. Learning opportunities are presented in the classroom, simulation, and in supervised clinical experiences.
