Special Olympics Virginia recently paid a visit to ECPI University’s Roanoke campus to present the campus with national banner recognition for its dedication to inclusion, advocacy, and respect. The university exceeded the 10 national standards of excellence set by Special Olympics, and is one of only two colleges in Virginia to receive this prestigious recognition.
Once a year, ECPI University joins with educators, business, and organizations around the world in the recognition of National Nurses Week.

Inspiring others in a heartwarming act of generosity, Michelle Tinner, a two-time ECPI University nursing graduate, returned to her alma mater to present a check of $10,000 on January 18th.
The donation will establish a special scholarship fund in Tinner’s name to support students in need of financial assistance at the Newport News campus. This remarkable gesture was inspired by Tinner’s personal journey and the profound impact ECPI University had on her life.
Growing up on a farm in southwest Missouri, Tyler’s unique childhood laid the foundation for his passion for mechanics and alternative energy.
“I started working on the farm when I was 8 years old,” said Tyler, whose family grew lawn seed and had cattle. An inquisitive and handy kid, he was also interested in learning how things worked.
“I have an early memory from my childhood of when my dad and I pulled an engine out of a truck, and I was pushing a truck motor across the shop floor,” said Tyler.
The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has introduced a new era of technological progress, revolutionizing the working world. From ChatGPT to virtual assistants, AI has brought efficiency and innovation to the forefront.
AI is already incorporated into areas of ECPI University’s technology curriculum, and now students also have the opportunity to refine their skills through competitions.
Five student veterans attending various ECPI University Virginia campuses had the unique opportunity to travel to Washington, DC for Hill Day in March.
Hill Day is an event where ECPI University students, faculty, and staff can engage with policymakers and advocate for higher education and career-focused learning. Typically, meetings are scheduled with elected officials and their staff to give ECPI representatives adequate time to share experiences, successes, and challenges related to higher education and career training.
ECPI University’s South Carolina (SC) cybersecurity apprenticeship program, approved by the SC Department of Labor in October 2022, offers a fresh approach to closing the skills gap. The program’s first
cybersecurity apprenticeship began in Columbia this June, partnering with Reliable Technology Solutions. The Charleston and Greenville campuses will soon follow with apprenticeship opportunities.
Kitchens were buzzing with activity as student teams competed against each other for
scholarship dollars at both campuses of the Culinary Institute of Virginia, ECPI University’s College of Culinary Arts, on April 28.
The Norfolk and Richmond locations were participating in a “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” culinary competition, with four student teams participating in Richmond and eight teams in Norfolk. This was CIV Richmond’s first culinary competition since opening in 2022.
ECPI University's Columbia campus cybersecurity team, D0wn the L1ine, made waves in the world of cybersecurity by securing first place at the highly acclaimed Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition (PCDC) held on April 16th. The team faced a highly competitive playing field, including schools like Clemson University, The Citadel, University of South Carolina, and the United States Naval Academy, to secure the gold.
ECPI University Campus President Andy Gladstein joined a delegation of educational, political, and business leaders from the Hampton Roads region on a July visit to Stuttgart, Germany.
