ECPI University Aligns Human Resource Degree Program to SHRM Standards

Professional Distinction Widely Recognized as Industry Standard

Virginia Beach, VA – ECPI University is pleased to announce that it has aligned its Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership – Human Resources Management Track degree program with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. Throughout the world, more than 500 programs in approximately 425 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates.

“It's an honor to say that ECPI University's College of Business is aligned with SHRM’s standards, but more importantly, it’s a benefit to our students,” says ECPI University Business College Dean Dr. Niccole Kopit. “For the HR professional, the SHRM certification is a distinction that holds real meaning. Beyond education, the HR industry looks to SHRM for professional certifications. We were thrilled to see SHRM acknowledge that our program meets its standards.”

The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

ECPI University’s human resources management track provides students with the opportunity to engage in contemporary practices that support and motivate a diverse and multicultural workforce in individual and group settings. Employee recruitment and retention are key points emphasized, including compensation and benefits, rewards and recognition.

Virtual Commencement Allows Family, Faculty, and Staff to Celebrate Graduates’ Achievement

Ceremony Honors Resilience and Perseverance During Pandemic

Virginia Beach, VA – Each year, many ECPI University online graduates travel to Virginia to participate in commencement, along with students from the Virginia Beach campus. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented this from taking place. So, why not put on a virtual ceremony? That’s exactly what the online team did, complete with music, speakers, and presentation of degrees.

“We felt it was important that we not only honor our students’ accomplishment, but also provide an opportunity for their family, friends, associates, neighbors and co-workers, who have supported them, to join in on the celebration,” says ECPI University Vice President of eLearning and Online Education Aaron Wettstein. “This has certainly been no ordinary school year. By nature, online students are great multitaskers and highly adaptable, but the pressures of the pandemic have affected them just like everyone else. So, this is also a celebration of their perseverance.”

One of the commencement speakers was MBA graduate Matthew Sewell. “As online students, we face greater challenges than most,” said Matthew during his speech. “We did not have set schedules. Most of us worked full-time jobs and supported families. None of this is easy, yet we added school to the mix? Are we crazy? No, of course not. We weren’t crazy…we were hungry, hungry for growth and advancement.”

Mr. Wettstein says it has been inspiring to see how ECPI University’s students have risen to the occasion to support their families, friends, fellow students, and communities during these unprecedented times while remaining committed to their educational goals. “This virtual ceremony also provided us a chance to thank all of our faculty and staff who have gone above and beyond to make the online experience so meaningful for our students.

“We have received numerous emails, text messages, and phone calls from students who have told us wonderful stories of their positive experiences in the online classroom and in our virtual labs.” ECPI University faculty members and department heads were uniquely prepared to effectively manage the challenges posed by COVID-19 because it has been delivering education remotely for more than 15 years and has always sought innovative technologies to provide its students with the best online educational experience possible.

To learn more about ECPI University’s online programs, please visit www.ecpi.edu/online. A recording of the virtual commencement is available to watch online at ECPI University Online Virtual Commencement. ECPI University Now Accepting Applications for Online Radiologic Sciences Bachelor Degree Program

B.S.R.S. Designed to Help Radiologic Technologists Advance Careers

Virginia Beach, VAECPI University is now accepting applications for its new online Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (B.S.R.S.) program. Developed using the American Society of Radiologic Technology’s (ASRT) curriculum guidelines, this program provides a broader knowledge base and skill set beyond the entry-level radiographer.

As healthcare becomes more dependent on interdisciplinary teams, ECPI University’s B.S.R.S. program can help radiologic technologists develop key skills required for advancement within the profession, including leadership, communication, research methodology, and critical thinking.

Moreover, a B.S.R.S. may help graduates command higher salaries. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage for Radiologic Technologists is $56,670. However, the BLS reports that the top 10 percent earn more than $81,660 per year.

Ultimately, earning a B.S.R.S. can allow radiologic technologists to pursue a master’s degree and become Radiological Assistants (RA) which are experienced, registered radiographers who have obtained additional education and certification that qualifies them to serve as radiologist extenders.

New Master of Science in Nursing Program Earns CCNE Accreditation

Signifies Highest Standard for Program Quality and Student Success

Virginia Beach, VAECPI University is pleased to announce its new Master of Science in Nursing program has received full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). CCNE is a national accrediting body for baccalaureate and higher nursing education programs and is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. CCNE evaluates nursing education programs for high quality, integrity, and successful program and student outcomes.

“The process of accreditation is entirely voluntary and programs seek accreditation to demonstrate to the public that the nursing program is well designed, well managed, and provides a solid nursing education to its graduates,” says Dr. Deborah Clark, MSN Nurse Administrator at ECPI University. “The process takes about two years from application, which includes hosting an on-site visit, and waiting for the Board of Commissioner’s final determination.”

ECPI University’s Master of Science in Nursing program encompasses two distinct and high-demand concentrations: Health Systems Leadership and Nursing Education. The concentrations are guided by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the National League for Nursing’s Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) competencies throughout the curriculum.

Northern Virginia Campus Accepting Applications for New Cybersecurity Master’s and Software Development Bachelor’s

Expanded Programs in Response to Critical Shortages Cited by Governor

Manassas, VA – Last month, the Northern Virginia Technology Council hosted its first-ever Cybersecurity Summit. During the two-day event, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe was joined by Virginia Senator Mark Warner and Northrop Grumman Vice President Kathy Warden in calling for a greater effort to draw more people toward careers in cyber and network security.

Governor McAuliffe revealed the state had identified approximately 53 million cyber-attacks and stopped 47,000 instances of malware, but warned that there are simply not enough qualified cyber and network security professionals available to meet the ongoing threat.

That’s why ECPI University’s Northern Virginia campus is expanding its program offerings to include a Master of Science in Cybersecurity and a Bachelor of Science in Software Development degree.

The need for these professionals could not be greater. According to Symantec’s 2016 Threat Report, there was a record-setting total of nine mega-breaches last year, and the reported number of exposed identities jumped to 429 million. Moreover, it found that:

  • Spear-phishing campaigns targeting employees increased 55%
  • Vulnerabilities were found in 3/4 of all websites
  • Ransomware increased 35%

Online Grads Travel Across the Country to “Walk” in Person

Virginia Beach, VA – For many years, Elizabeth City resident Patrick Keziah has dreamed of becoming the first person in his family to graduate from college. Years ago, he earned an associate’s degree in the liberal arts but believed that real success would only come with a bachelor’s degree in a more technical field.

So, to inspire himself and motivate his daughter, he suggested they compete to see who could be first in the family to earn a bachelor’s degree. It was close, but she beat him by 23 days. This Saturday, he joins her as the second person in the Keziah family to earn a bachelor’s degree, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer and Information Science with a concentration in Healthcare Information Technology.

Getting to this point has not been easy. Patrick first endured a debilitating illness that ravaged his digestive system. After a 10-day stay in the hospital, he had to opt out of school for two terms. Then, just as he was getting back underway, his mother fell ill and he had to take time off to care for her and find her permanent residence in a nursing home.

Throughout it all, Patrick never took his eye off the prize. This Saturday, he will represent the study body at graduation, speaking about the power of perseverance. “It’s been quite a journey,” says Patrick. “I learned a lot about myself and I also learned that very few accomplishments occur without the help of others. I will always be grateful to the many people at ECPI University who stood by me and helped me catch up and get back on track.”

Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 31 at Chrysler Hall, located at 215 St. Pauls Boulevard in Norfolk, Virginia beginning at 5:00 pm. More than 400 graduates are expected to participate in the ceremony.
Eight of those graduates are Online graduates who are traveling from as far away as California, Arizona, Colorado, and Ohio to be part of the procession.  For more information, please contact ECPI University Director of Marketing at 757.490.9090 or publicrelations@ecpi.edu.
