Mechanical Engineering Technology Associate Degree Overview

The Associate of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) is a hands-on degree program which prepares students to apply engineering principles to design, build, maintain, and troubleshoot physical machines and systems with moving parts. This could involve anything from car engines to robotics. You'll gain the skills to prepare you for various industries, including product design and fabrication as well as manufacturing and systems control. 

This MET program equips students with a foundational understanding of mechanical principles, through courses in material science, manufacturing processes, 3D modeling, and more.

Knowledge and Skills

Graduates should grow in the following areas:

  • Foundational Technical and Analytical Skills:
    Proficient in 2D and 3D modeling and design. Solid understanding of CNC programming and skilled in CAD and CAM manufacturing. 
  • Modern Tools and Techniques:
    Knowledgeable in hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and controls. Proficiency in using modern tools specific to mechanical engineering technology.
  • Practical Experience:
    Knowledgeable in different manufacturing processes – conducting, analyzing and interpreting experiments. Experience in applying experimental results to improve mechanical processes.

This course covers basic digital concepts. Students will learn about number systems, Boolean algebra, logic minimization, and combinational design.

Provides students with an overview of Smart Manufacturing with an emphasis on Industry 4.0, robotics, smart sensors, and Industrial Internet of Things, IIoT.

Program Requirements

To receive the Associate of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, students must earn 76 semester credit hours. The program requires a minimum of 5 semesters, which is equivalent to 19 months or 75 weeks of instruction. The program requirements are as follows:
