DMS206 Introduction to Clinical Education

College of Health Science Diagnostic Medical Sonography Department

Course Description: This course will be the first opportunity for students to develop their newly learned skills in a clinical patient care setting. Students will demonstrate how to effectively deal with patient care issues, patient preparation, history taking and communication while keeping patients information confidential. Students may report to their site for orientation, department policy and procedure review, and to get oriented to their clinical team as well as the facility. Emphasis will be placed on students professional qualities as it pertains to their behavior and interaction with patients, sonographers and physicians. Students may begin to conduct sonographic exams under direct supervision of staff sonographers.
