NUR267 Psychiatric Nursing

This course is tailored to the professional registered nursing program and establishes the foundation for entry level nursing practice by introducing the student to the principles and concepts of care for the family and individual diagnosed with a Psychiatric Mental Health condition in a multicultural society. This course utilizes a holistic framework of nursing and includes an overview of the common standards of mental health goals as well as the core components of the nursing program. The course is designed to assist the student in using critical thinking to identify areas of care that could benefit from additional research or application of evidence-based nursing practice. The student will have experiences in providing nursing care to families and individuals with psychiatric conditions. Supervised learning experiences will be provided in the nursing laboratories and/or cooperating agencies.
