NUR458 Acute Care Nursing

This course provides the theoretical foundation of medical-surgical nursing care to the adult population. Special emphasis is placed on clients in an acute care, or critical care, setting. The application of the nursing process is applied to diverse client scenarios experiencing complex alterations in health status within the context of current research findings and in the provision of holistic care to the client and their family. This course examines multiple topics including perioperative concepts, oncological clients, shock, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, emergency nursing, terrorism, mass casualty, disaster nursing, end of life care, ECG monitoring, and IV therapy.

Prerequisite: NUR 357, NUR 359, NUR 426, NUR 457
