ECPI University Alumni Called to be a Part of New eSports Team!

By now, you may have heard that ECPI University has become the first school in Virginia’s Hampton Roads region to field an intercollegiate eSports team. And we know what many of you are probably thinking right now… you wish this would have happened while you were still in school. But that does not mean you can’t still be a part of the action.

ECPI University Alumni Called to be a Part of New eSports Team!

Competing as the ECPI University Rams, we are preparing to make our mark in a sport that is gaining tremendous popularity by the day. This is no club that we are starting here… ECPI University is now a member of NACE, the National Association of Collegiate eSports. That means we are competing against nearly 100 other colleges and universities across the nation. Think of it as the NCAA of college eSports. It’s a major endeavor. We are awarding scholarships and field teams in games such as:

  • OVERWATCH
  • CS:GO
  • HEARTHTSONE
  • LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
  • ROCKET LEAGUE
  • HEROES OF THE STORM

Bottom line, starting a program like this is a major undertaking and we need lots of help. Right now, we have four coaches and a team manager, but we need more hands on deck. And that’s where YOU, as alumni, come into the picture. We’re currently looking for volunteers to help with:

  • Live Streaming (OBS) production, operation and chat moderation for all games, practices and matches to Twitch.tv, YouTube, and Facebook!
  • Shout Casting (calling games) for official collegiate matches that we broadcast
  • Assistant coaching for multiple games (a high level understanding of the game of your choice is required as well as previous competitive, ranked play)
  • Administrative support – Web developers, social media, discord moderation, team statistics and performance analysis

Positions are available for the Virginia Beach and Newport News Virginia campus immediately. Team manager and ECPI University Director of Web Services Mike Glover says the outpouring of support from the University’s alumni has been phenomenal. “Here’s an opportunity for alumni who are competitive gamers, or just avid casual gamers to get involved and help support the ECPI University eSports program in a meaningful and impactful way,” says Glover.

“Having the support of ECPI University alumni means the world to our current players.  Just knowing there are people out there already cheering them on and counting on them to represent the University to entire world for eSports helps them remain focused and determined.”

If you’d like to lend your passion and expertise to the team, we want to hear from you! Just email us at rams@ecpi.edu with a brief description of how you would like to help and someone from the team will reach out soon!
