[May 8, 2026 | 1:36 PM ET] Instructure, the company that provides and manages the Canvas learning management system used by ECPI University, has confirmed that Canvas was taken offline briefly as a precaution while they addressed unauthorized activity on their platform. Canvas is fully back online, and you may continue using it as normal for your coursework. ECPI University and Instructure remain committed to providing a safe and reliable learning experience.
Instructure's investigation has found no evidence that additional data was taken or that any user credentials were compromised. We have no indication that ECPI University data was further affected. We will continue to monitor the situation and will share updates as new information becomes available.
Our earlier guidance on phishing remains in effect. Be skeptical of any unexpected message asking you to click a link, log in, or share a code, even if it appears to come from Canvas or ECPI University.

This incident was not directed at ECPI University as Instructure serves thousands of institutions worldwide. This is a vendor-level event affecting hundreds of institutions.
What Happened
Instructure disclosed a cybersecurity incident that is currently under investigation. Instructure has stated that the information involved includes certain user data: names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and messages among users. The company has found no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, or financial information were involved.
What ECPI University Is Doing
Our IT Security team is actively monitoring the situation, including Canvas availability and any new developments, and working directly with Instructure to assess any specific impacts to ECPI University systems or data. We will provide updates as new information emerges.
What You Should Do
- Watch for phishing emails. Do not click links in unsolicited emails claiming to be from Canvas, Instructure, or ECPI University.
- Access Canvas directly. Always log in using your official ECPI Canvas link.
- Report anything suspicious to [email protected]
