Much has changed since ECPI University was founded 50 years ago. In 1966, the world was much different. Technology was only just beginning to influence the way we lived. If we took a photo, we had to head over to the drug store or a Fotomat and wait several days for our pictures to be developed. The kind of classes ECPI taught were certainly much different. Back then, computers used punch cards and took up entire rooms. And they were no match for the capacity found in just one of today’s smartphones.
One thing that has not changed, however, is the sheer joy that graduates experience at commencement exercises or the pride that overwhelms parents as they see their children reach one of life’s great milestones. In 2016, however, nobody is rushing to have film developed! Graduation ceremonies are simulcast so anyone can watch around the world and students can post photos to social media in real time, expressing their joy and allowing others to congratulate them on a job well done.
Throughout the past 50 years, more than 70,000 people have graduated from ECPI University.
