NUR251 Medical Surgical Nursing I

This course introduces the student to setting priorities, communicating, planning, and providing care for medical-surgical patients with multiple physiological and psychosocial needs in diverse health care settings. The focus of the course includes health promotion, maintenance, and restoration and builds upon previous knowledge and skills. Students utilize clinical decision making and the nursing process to provide care for adults, from early adulthood through geriatrics. Opportunities to identify best practices from selected sources of current nursing evidence are provided. Students communicate with the interdisciplinary team to initiate plan of care and participate in quality improvement processes. Learning opportunities for this course include classroom and supervised clinical experiences.
